Safeinteriors final summary

SAFETRAIN was a research project on Train Crashworthiness [or Europe, funded by the European Commission and sponsored by UlC, having started the 1 st August 1997 with the duration of 4 yeas.
The main objective of SAFETRAIN is to reduce the numbers of fatalities and serious injuries in railway accidents through new improved design of vehicle structures. To improve railway cars passive safety SAFETRAIN has developed technology able to manage the collision energy and designed specific impact structures to crush in a controlled and progressive way. The survival space for occupants is maintained and acceleration levels felt by occupants are kept limited, 'The SAFETRAIN research serves as basis for the Euro Norm production within the Work Group 2 of the CEN regarding the crashworthiness requirements for rail carbodies Classes I to 111.
